Dundee Airport (DND)
Airport Information
(Dundee, Scotland)
Standing alongside the River Tay and close to both the Dundee Technology Park and the city's university, Dundee Airport is located just 3 km / 2 miles south-west of the city itself and within the Tayside area. The airport offers convenient access to several major centres within east and central Scotland, including Dundee city, Perth, Montrose, Forfar and Blairgowrie.
Although relatively small is size, Dundee Airport is an important regional entry point for tourists travelling to locations along the river and the surrounding towns and villages. Services to and from Dundee Airport are currently restricted to flights arriving from other destinations in the UK and limited international charter flights, with approximately 75,000 passengers utilising the airport annually. New routes to Belfast and Birmingham have recently been added by FlyWhoosh airlines.
The airport lies just off the A85 highway, which runs directly to Dundee city and connects with the A90 to Perth and the A92 to Glenrothes. There are no direct bus or rail links from Dundee Airport, although taxis are easily available from outside the terminal building and provide transport to mainline bus and rail stations, and locations around the region, such as Aberdeen, Arbroath, Dunfermline, Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy.
About Dundee Tourism
Dundee has the distinction of being Scotland's sunniest city and is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist destination, due in no small part to its good weather and unique location at the mouth of the River Tay. First granted city status over eight centuries ago, the city is rich in culture and the presence of Dundee University ensures a lively nightlife and a friendly atmosphere.
Visitors arriving at Dundee Airport (DND) will find much to enjoy, such as regular concerts by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at the Caird Hall, performances at the Dundee Repertory Theatre, and an interesting museum with art works at the McManus Galleries, a grand Gothic-style building sited within Albert Square.
Also of interest are Dundee's numerous jazz and blue festivals, while for others, this city serves as a good place to explore Scotland, being close to Rosyth, the Firth of Forth, Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Keen golfers will find Dundee Airport well placed for a round at Gleneagles, St. Andrews and other famous Scottish golf courses.
